Focus:
We will split our class time between Pagels and group
prep.
1)
Read (Skip to Monday's reading of) Pagels' chapter:
"From the Feast of Agape to the Nicene Creed."
In
this essay, Pagels invites us to focus on one further
piece of our puzzle: the centrality of the death and
resurrection of Jesus for early Christian writers and
thinkers. This 'event', while already important for early
writers and thinkers, was nonetheless not 'recognized' for
what it conveys and for what Jesus' death and resurrection
offers humanity.
Be
sure to catch how and who interprets Jesus' death and
resurrection, how and when it becomes a troubling
theological issue, and who and how this issue unfolds.
2)
Group work on project preparation.
Bring
your focus sheets - all completed.
