We
are moving into the third of our Canonical Gospels, the
Gospel of John.
Focus:
1)
Read: Genesis Chapters 1 and 2 before reading John. Read
each chapter 1, and 2 seperately. It will take a little
time to do this as the text is different than the kind of
gospel texts we have been reading. Note language,
sequence, actions, creation of mankind, creation of the
world, and if mankind is given a specific purpose.
2)
Read:
The Gospel of John through chapter 8. As with our other
Gospels, pay attention to the beginnings, to the opening
sentences, the transition in phrases and message. Draw
attention to particular words that stand out. What do
these 'key' words seem to offer /suggest?
3)
Connect: Then connect between John and Genesis 1 and 2.
What connections are there? Does John connect better /more
with either Genesis 1 or 2? What words convey this? What
message/gopsel does John convey?
4)
Connect for next class: Now connect the above with our
learnings about Paul, and with the Gospels of Mark and
Matthew. What is kept, what changes?
